Day 27. One Last Day of Excursions

Tuesday was the last opportunity for the capitulants to go on outings together.

The biggest group left Nemi early, at seven o’clock, for a long bus ride to Assisi. In the morning, they were free to walk through the beautiful medieval town, to enjoy the view of the peaceful valley or to visit the Basilica of St. Francis, which is one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. After lunch, they went to Santa Maria degli Angeli, which contains the little church of Portiuncula, considered the cradle of the Franciscan Order and a place full of God’s grace. After a guided visit of the church, the sisters had time for prayer and contemplation.

Another group went to Rome, where they could chose either to visit the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel or to wander around the city, go to Trinità dei Monti and admire Mater Admirabilis, the original fresco of a young Mary painted by Pauline Perdrau rscj in 1844. Those who preferred to spend the day basking in the Italian sunshine and swimming went to Lake Albano.

After this relaxing day, the capitulants will continue to work on the post-chapter process and the final document of XXXVII General Chapter of the Society of the Sacred Heart 2024.
