Day 9: A day of reaching out
On Friday, the work of the Chapter continued, and at the same time “something new was born”. Taking advantage of technology, the capitulants connected via Zoom with the sisters of the Society. Three capitulants, Clara Malo RSCJ, Karla Núñez RSCJ, Lourdes Ramos RSCJ shared the experiences that the capitulants had lived together at the Chapter so far. After the presentation, a video of a short ballet performance was shown, in which a man with one leg danced with a woman who had one arm. This performance was overwhelmingly felt by the participants to symbolize how, even if we may feel incomplete and fragile by ourselves, when we move together in trust, confidence and love, we are complete.
Sisters from around the world then had the opportunity to voice their opinions regarding this moment of connection. Many commented on how much they felt a part of the Chapter with these sharing sessions, with the daily streaming of the prayers, and with the level of communication and transparency they were seeing.
The topic of the day was power and equity. The capitulants first reflected on it in small groups with their current province. After discussing the feelings, challenges, and opportunities that came up in their province, they had the opportunity to reflect on a future-oriented question: “How do we feel about the capacity and willingness of the Society to work together to face concrete issues related to power and equity in the context of the new structure? What would be some of those issues?” The day ended with the sharing of the groups and plenary.
